Brewery St.Bernardus
In the heart of the West Flemish hop district, a truly inspiring beer is brewed that fancies a lot of beer lovers. Here, in the poetry village of Watou, time seems to fade slower than in the rest of the country. It is a region where life is different and calmer. Where people still live in harmony with nature. Where traditions and values are continued, traditions such as brewing beer for example. Are you curious about the (hi)story and the organisation of the brewery, then we welcome you at one of our brewery visits.
Poperinge
Poperinge, capital of hop, offers everything foodies, cyclists and hikers are so keen about. After all, it’s a small step from hop to gastronomy. In the countless charming restaurants you can taste the legendary ‘Poperings standevleesch’, mazarine pie and hop shoots, of course accompanied by a tasty local beer.
Many hiking and cycling routes lead you along country roads, hop fields, church roads, forests, fields and grass paths. The many British cemeteries and war relics recall the past of Poperinge, as a city behind the front.
Ypres
The charm of the medieval past and the many memories of the turbulent war past make an excursion to Ypres unforgettable.
The city is surrounded by a green belt, the fortresses and a beautiful walking area. The Menin Gate is the largest commemorative monument to the First World War, under which the Last Post is blown every night at 8 pm, it’s a truly captivating moment. The ‘In Flanders Fields Museum’ in the Cloth Hall brings the story and the memory of WW1 on the basis of personal testimonies and modern techniques.
Brewery Kazematten
Brewery Kazematten are part of the ramparts that surround the city of Ypres. The unique ancient Casemates (Kazematten) of the Wooden Horse near the Lille Gate in Ypres have been transformed into an authentic brewery.
Every Saturday afternoon the brewery is open for public, from 3pm to 5pm. For 10 euro per person (4 euro per child), you can visit the brewery and taste 3 beers. Visits start every half hour. A reservations is desired.
Our Guesthouse is easily accessible by car. If you wish to reach us by public transport, you must count on the bus transport by the Flemish transport company De Lijn. On weekdays line 51 arrives at the market square in Watou, but it is still 2.5 km to the Guesthouse. Either you can call the Belbus West-Vlaanderen to take you from the market in Watou to the Guesthouse, or you can call the Belbus immediately, for example to take you from the station in Poperinge to the stop at the Guesthouse. By calling the number + 32 59 56 52 56 the Belbus will come to your place of request. Please note that it is best to reserve at least 2 hours in advance.

Loved it! We'll be back.
"Het Brouwershuis is an outstanding Guesthouse. The rooms are clean and spacious. The breakfast is a delicious and generous mix of freshly baked breads and pastries, fresh yogurt, and eggs cooked to order. The location is wonderful. After a long day of biking around the Flemish countryside, you are welcome to help yourself to one (or a couple) fantastic St.Bernardus beers. It was a wonderful experience staying at Het Brouwershuis. We will certainly return and highly recommend it to anyone planning to stay in the area."

Great beer, great hotel, great room
"We stayed here whilst doing a beer tour of Belgium. The staff were very helpful and accommodating from the very start of the booking process. We stayed in a triple room which was very spacious. The brewery Bar Bernard is just a two minute walk away and also a great place to spend an evening."

"Loved our stay at this modern, spacious guesthouse! Loved the common areas and large, beautiful breakfast rooms and decks. Great food at the large St Bernardus Brewery bar next door - which has a stunning deck overlooking the hops fields and countryside."
